Lord of the Glens

8 Day Heart of the Highlands Cruise from Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness

The 54 passenger Lord of the Glens journeys through the Scottish countryside in spectacular style. From the moment you step aboard you are surrounded by the rich mahogany finishes of the reception area and lobby. The ship is magnificently appointed and is more in keeping with the standard expected of a stately country manor than that of a five-star ship. The cabins are tastefully decorated, comfortable and spacious with wonderful outside views.

Embark in Kyle of Lochalsh.

Day 1: Kyle of Lochalsh

Join the Lord of the Glens at Kyle of Lochalsh. After time to settle in to your cabin there will be an evening welcome reception and dinner.

Day 2: Isle of Skye - Inverie

This morning there will be a visit to the Donan Castle and the picturesque village of Plockton. The Lord of the Glens will sail via Kyle Rhea and the Sound of Sleat to Armadale on the picturesque Isle of Skye. In the afternoon, visit the Clan Donald Centre and Gardens before setting sail for the remote settlement of Inverie in Loch Nevis. Inverie is not connected to the road network so the only ways into the village are by a very long walk, by helicopter or by boat. Here you can find the 'Old Forge', famous for being the world's most remote pub! The Lord of the Glens will remain moored in Inverie overnight.

Day 3: Eigg - Isle of Mull

It is an early start this morning as you sail around Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point of mainland Britain, to arrive at the tiny island of Eigg. Here you will get a sense of what life is like for the 90-strong population of this tiny settlement. Then, continue through the Sound of Mull to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Tobermory is famous for its pretty quaiside, lined with brightly coloured houses. The Lord of the Glens will remain in Tobermory overnight so there will be plenty of time for you to explore this quaint little town.

Day 4: Isle of Iona

This morning your journey continues to Craignure, also on the Isle of Mull and from here it is a short drive to the Isle of Iona, where no less than 62 Scottish kings are buried. St Columba came here from Ireland in 563 AD and it was from Iona that early Christianity spread through northern Britain. Return to the vessel at Craignure and sail across to Oban – the seafood capital of Scotland - with a pause in front of Duart Castle for photographs. Moor Oban overnight

Day 5: Caledonian Canal

Enjoy a morning sail through the Sound of Mull and Loch Linnhe to Corpach and the entrance to the Caledonian Canal. This afternoon you will take the West Highland railway line over the renowned viaduct to beautiful Glenfinnan, surrounded by mountains. Moor Corpach overnight.

Day 6: Glenfinnan - Fort Augustus

This morning sail to ascend Neptune’s Staircase, a flight of eight inter-connected locks that lifts the vessel 103 feet. Your cruise continues along the Caledonian Canal via Loch Lochy, Laggan Avenue and Loch Oich to Fort Augustus. Rebellion. The Lord of the Glens will overnight in Fort Augustus. Moor at Fort Augustus overnight.

Day 7: Loch Ness - Culloden - Inverness

Sail in the morning descending the flight of locks at Fort Augustus and across Loch Ness pausing midway in front of romantic Urquhart Castle before crossing Loch Dochfour and arriving into Inverness. This afternoon there will be an excursion to historic Culloden and to the ancient chamber tombs at Clava Cairns. On your final evening on board, there will be a farewell reception and dinner on board.
